About the Role
The postholder will learn all aspects and processes involved in the manufacture of high-integrity castings in a modern foundry environment; producing cores and moulds, melting, casting removal and finishing products to customer requirements.
- Manually producing cores and moulds by using chemically-bonded sand, in accordance with instructions
 - Assisting in the melting process of up to 3.8 tonnes of steel
 - Pouring molten steel into the mould cavities
 - Casting removal
 - Non-destructive testing (MPI/DPI)
 - Finishing castings to customer requirements
 - Undertaking final inspections of finished components
 - Maintain a clean, organised and productive work area
 - Carry out assigned tasks in compliance with ISO requirements and safety procedures
 - Maintain safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations as all times
 
During the apprenticeship, you will learn about the process of producing steel castings to a high standard. In addition to completing the level 3 apprenticeship, you will also gain experience in all aspects of the foundry. Manual handling and overhead crane training will be provided along with other mandatory “toolbox talks” and health & safety training.
About the Training
3 days a month at Sheffield College, the rest of the time based at the employer.
