About the Role
The successful applicant will be willing to learn and work in a team environment with good problem-solving skills. They will learn how to read technical drawings, and manufacture parts to a high specification. They will become skilled in both traditional methods of machining (milling/ turning/grinding) and the more modern method of CNC milling.
Role & responsibilities
- Cutting material for machining components on a variety of equipment
- Machining of components using manual turning/ milling and CNC milling
- Learning to read technical drawings
- Working to specific tolerances
- Hand fitting and assembly of components when required
- Making tooling when required
- Completion of the University of Sheffield’s AMRC Training Centre apprenticeships are nationally recognised qualifications which are acknowledged and respected by employers across the world. These can open the door to many more opportunities, such as Engineering Management and Project Engineering positions across a range of sectors worldwide
About the Training
You will study on a Level 3 Machining Technician Standard. On completion of this, you will gain a qualification in Engineering at Advanced Level 3:
- EAL L3 Extended diploma in Machining (Development Knowledge)
During the first year of the apprenticeship, your learning will take place at the University of Sheffield’s AMRC Training Centre based at Catcliffe, Rotherham, for an initial block of study on a full-time basis. After this, you will attend the Training Centre for one day a week for knowledge study.
