About the Role

As part of the programme, the successful candidate will learn how to; check materials before starting work, become competent using technical information, set up a range of work-holding devices including chucks, fixtures and vices, programme, set and operate CNC machinery. Also completing machining operations & using a range of measuring equipment.

  • To maintain a clean and efficient work area
  • Setting up the CNC machine
  • Using time efficiently
  • Contributing towards continuous improvement of the CNC department

The CNC Machinist Apprentice is responsible to the Production Supervisor for the efficient and effective control of the delegated production area:

  • The prime responsibility is to ensure that all products are processed to acceptable quality standards and thereby achieve customer satisfaction
  • Must work within agreed cost margins
  • Coping with a work-load dictated by an unknown daily customer requirement requires a particular set of skills

Completion of the University of Sheffield’s AMRC Training Centre apprenticeships are nationally recognised qualification that are acknowledged and respected by employers across the world.

These can open the door to many more opportunities, such as Engineering Management and Project Engineering positions across a range of sectors worldwide.

About the Training

You will study on a Level 3 Machining Technician Standard. On completion of this, you will gain a qualification in Engineering at Advanced Level 3.

During the first year of the Apprenticeship, your learning will take place at the University of Sheffield’s AMRC Training Centre based at Catcliffe, Rotherham, for an initial block of study on a full-time basis. After this, you will attend the Training Centre for one day a week for knowledge study.
